Biography ÐFeb 2005Ð
Captain Bogg & Salty
began as a childrenÕs pirate themed concept CD by Kevin Hendrickson and Loren
Hoskins in 1999. The band now includes six members with diverse backgrounds in
musical theater, sketch comedy, and childrenÕs theater. Dressed in Hollywood-
quality costumes and filled to the brim with swagger and pirate dialect, the
bandÕs theatrically driven sets are full of audience interaction and
inspired-silliness. Their original pirate jigs, mermaid lullabies, and rock
chanteys are written by the band members in styles from calypso and pop to
galloping rock.
Throughout each performance audiences are introduced to the
charming crew of Captain Bogg & SaltyÕs ship ÒThe Pollywogg.Ó Seacook Sunny
Jim (Paul Iannotti, keyboards) serves up a mean omelet, and former British
Naval Officer Mister Filibuster (Lucas Haley, bass guitar) can hardly be coaxed
into any of his duties. Meanwhile the loveable and fearsome Captain Bogg (Loren
Hoskins, vocals) keeps the rest of the crew on their toes: First Mate McGraw
(Kevin Hendrickson, guitar/vocals), shipÕs carpenter, Ramshackle (Dave Owen,
drums), and gunner, Buckle (Andy Lindberg, guitar/vocals). Hendrickson and
Iannotti also crew with PortlandÕs original buccaneer band Pirate Jenny.
As
members of Young Audiences of Oregon & Washington Captain Bogg & Salty
regularly perform in schools. And the band is just as likely to be found in
rock clubs performing the same material for an adult audience. Recent
performances include The Bite Of Oregon, Bossanova, Gresham Library, Linn
County Fair, and the National Orange Show in San Bernardino. Now in its sixth
year, the bandÕs annual Festival de Piratas in Portland attracts pirate music
fans from the entire West Coast.
The new CD ÔPegleg TangoÕ contains 14 tracks (10 new songs, 1 cover, and 3 audio sketches) and is on course to rival the bandÕs prior release as the ultimate soundtrack for all to Òplay pirate.Ó Their first CD ÔBedtime Stories for Pirates (1999),Ó is an independent phenomenon that is for sale all over the globe and a staple product in the cannon of many pirate-themed attractions ; Treasure Island Las Vegas Casino, Pirates of Nassau Museum Ð Bahamas, and TeachÕs Hole Blackbeard Museum (built on the site of the notorious pirate's death) For more information visit www.EATALIME.com.
